Well, the date is set. On March 29th I will no longer be Poorna Ramakrishnan......I will be Poorna Diaz! Crazy!! I couldn't be more excited.
So my mom calls me a couple of days ago and this is how our conversation goes:
Mom: Hey, I'm in the lawyer's office and we're finalizing the adoption papers. Do you want a middle name?
Me: Excuse me?
Mom: Well, you always said you wanted a middle name, and the lawyer said, if you're serious, now's the time to do it since your last name is changing anyway, all the paperwork could get done at the same time.
Me: oh, ok...um.
Mom: I need to know right away because the lawyer is filling out the paperwork now.
Me: You really think 2 minutes is enough to make such a big decision?!
Mom: oh, I guess not!
Then it carried on for a little after that, but I just cracked up. And she had a similar conversation with my sister too. Getting a middle name is a HUGE decision, but apparently only for me and my sister--my mom thinks it's like picking turkey or ham for a sandwich. I already over think everything, so it just made it all the more humorous that I was asked to make a decision like this within minutes. I sort of understand how parents-to-be have such a difficult time choosing a name of their baby-on-the-way.
As always, I'm always about one step or 10 seconds behind everyone and everything. So, per tradition, I tardily decided on a middle name: Elisabeth. With an "S" rather than a "Z". The name is not linked to anyone, I just like the name, and this particular way of spelling. But alas, I decided not to go back to the lawyer and voice my decision, because I realized changing the last name is "enough" of a change! And besides, what's the point of getting a middle name now?
SO, there's that. March 29th could not get her soon enough! I am praying everything goes smoothly at the court, and my family can start yet another chapter of our story. Praise God!
