If I were Archie, I'd cheer for...

If you were Archie Manning, which Super Bowl team would you cheer for this year?

2010 Super Bowl will showcase the New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts. Since I am a resident of the latter city, I am obviously going to cheer for the Colts! Although, I have to admit, I'm still not a rabid Colts fan......yet; after all I've only been living in this city for a little less than two years. I haven't fully drank the Colts kool aid. I think it takes years, sometimes decades to truly live and breathe a team. I don't know if I'll ever be THAT big of a Colts fan, but I sure will do my best to cheer for them. Kentucky Basketball, on the other hand, is a whole different story.

OK, back to what I was asking about Archie. Archie Manning is the father of the infamous Peyton Manning, star quarter back and fearless leader of the Colts. And just for the record, Peyton Manning is an institution in Indianapolis. Back in the 70's, Archie was the second overall selection in the NFL draft by guess which team? That's right, the New Orleans Saints! Archie played for the Saints for 10 whole seasons--none of which were winning seasons. So, now...year 2010, we have his beloved team, the Saints, stacking up against his very own son's team, the Colts. His son, whom he taught to hold a football, throw a football, and play the game itself. Interesting dilemma!

This is the Saints' first Super Bowl showing ever. Ever. In fact I believe this is actually their first winning season - for a while, the Saints and the Colts were actually undefeated this year! So, if you were Archie, who would you cheer for??? Your team, which is finally getting a break and winning? Or your son's team? Tough decision! My personal opinion, he will cheer for the Colts--after all it is his son. BUT, if they lose, I don't know that he'd be all that upset either.

Part of me wants the Saints to win....just because they're the underdog. For pete's sake, did you know that in the '80s, after the Saints lost their first 14 games, a news anchor advised that Saints supporters wear a bag over their at home games. In fact, they were even dubbed the nickname "Aints". ("Ain't is a colloquialism and a contraction used for "am not", but also used for "is not", "are not", "has not" or "have not" in the common vernacular." ~Wikipedia) Can you imagine playing for a team, whose fans show up @ home games with bags over their heads??

With a season like what they've had, I don't think anyone showed up to games wearing bags. Besides the Colts just won a Super Bowl not too long ago. Time to share the spotlight, right?

Isn't sports fun?! I love it. Team work. Inspiration. Dedication. Learning. Strategizing. WINNING! All of it.

P.S. How 'bout this new blog layout? The lady who does the custom blog designs has a wait list out the wazoo, which I think will take her the rest of the year to finish...so I decided to use one of the free ones already provided to me and add my own little personal touch. Tulips are the best.

  1. I think the blog looks great! Thanks for the sports trivia---I will use it to impress that husband of mine and pretend like I know something about football- and then obviously give credit where credit is due for the info, as he will know better than believe it is my own knowledge! :)
