home-buying analogy

Happy Friday!

In all my anxiety with these home-buying activities, I actually had an epiphany!  Ready for this?  Home-buying is like getting married.  That's the epiphany.  Home-buying is like getting married!

Here is the explanation:
  • the home is like the man
  • going to open houses is like dating different men
  • putting in an offer is like proposing
  • accepting the offer & preparing for the closing is like getting engaged
  • closing on the home is like the wedding
  • handing over the keys is like exchanging rings
  • price you're willing to pay for the home is like the sacrifices you're willing to make for your future husband
  • negotiating on the home price is like compromising on one another's differences
  • a break-up in the relationship is like a home offer that fell through
  • the things a woman would miss most after a break-up are like the buyer's favorite things about the home (when the offer falls through)
Maybe a stretch?  Maybe not?  I sure have learned a lot from this entire process.  I learned that I am in no way a negotiator.  I give in.  REALLY quickly.  I feel too bad for the other person and let my emotions completely get in the way and skew my judgement.  Good thing I have help from other people who don't live inside my emotionally charged head!

Needless to say the condo countering is still going on.  I am not willing to settle just yet.  It scares me, but if it's "meant to be" then it will happen.  Ha!  Did anyone else catch that hidden analogy?  (i.e., spouses are like homes...they're both "meant to be")

Oh dear.  On that note, I'm off to dinner at P.F. Changs with the HIPPies (i.e., coworkers)!  Chang's yummy lettuce wraps are calling my name.

Au revoir!
